L’idea di realizzare Nordamericana è direttamente collegata alla volontà che ci spinse a creare, esattamente dieci anni fa, Squadratlantica. In questa maglia ritroviamo lo stesso prezioso pensiero che ci spinse a realizzare un prodotto Italiano di qualità e di chiamarlo Squadratlantica così da evocare la forza di quella impresa straordinaria che fu compiuta in nome dell’Italia. Un Made in Italy forte, sicuro, orgoglioso, da portare in tutto il mondo sull’esempio degli aviatori della “Squadra Atlantica”.
1923 – 1933 DECENNALE DELLA REGIA AERONAUTICA 2011 – 2021 DIECI ANNI DI SQUADRATLANTICA
A celebrare il decimo anno della Regia Aeronautica, la Trasvolata Atlantica del Decennale prese il volo il 1 Luglio del 1933. Squadratlantica nasce ufficialmente proprio il 1 Luglio del 2011 e quest’anno Nordamericana celebra il decimo anno di Squadratlantica. Date sul calendario allineate in una cabala che lega tra loro due imprese così distanti nei mezzi eppure così vicine nel fine: portare nel mondo, con gli strumenti più potenti a disposizione, la Cultura, la Bellezza, la Volontà, il Coraggio, la Qualità e l’Orgoglio del Made in Italy. Attraversare allora un oceano per la prima volta ed in formazione fu un atto tecnico di un coraggio straordinario, ben oltre il limite del rischio. Erano gli Atlantici cento uomini ispirati e guidati da una personalità fortissima, uniti tra loro e sostenuti dai mezzi più potenti che la nazione del tempo potesse esprimere; affrontare in solitaria il mercato mondiale con un brand sconosciuto, orfani ignorati da quella stessa nazione di oggi fu forse un atto di coraggio ma ben oltre il limite dell’incoscienza. Ma la presunzione e la volontà di farcela formano la base stessa delle imprese ed oggi, segnati dall’esperienza ma per questo ancora più sicuri e determinati, siamo qui a celebrare quel primo giorno di luglio di dieci anni fa e del secolo scorso.
SIMBOLI E PAROLE SU UNA MAGLIA DA LEGGERE
Ogni elemento di Nordamericana racconta un particolare della trasvolata Atlantica del 1933. Abbiamo selezionato di rappresentare gli elementi più iconici ed inconfondibili dell’impresa per dare soddisfazione all’appassionato ma anche per fissare nomi e forme nella memoria di chi per la prima volta osserva. Ogni elemento è realizzato in modo da essere per quanto possibile compatibile con l’estetica e le possibilità della manifattura tessile dell’epoca ed allo stesso tempo per assicurare una lunga vita operativa ad un prodotto che deve essere pratico nell’uso e nella manutenzione. Abbiamo deciso di raccontare nel dettaglio il nostro lavoro su questa maglia al fine di comunicare con chiarezza la mole di studio, il pensiero e la passione che sono alla base della progettazione così da consentire a chi la indossa di farsi giusto interprete ed anfitrione di quanto su di essa rappresentato. A chi esprimesse un giudizio sulla abbondanza di grafica rappresentata rispondiamo che è nella natura stessa della maglia quella di essere un’esclamazione visiva per l’orgoglio dell’impresa compiuta; non avrebbe infatti senso celebrare sommessamente una impresa che ebbe una così ampia eco mondiale. E’ quindi questa una sorta di maglia da tifoso, da indossare con orgoglio e rispetto. Da parte nostra abbiamo lavorato con grande impegno per coordinare tra loro i vari elementi utilizzando materiali e colori appropriati così da ottenere comunque un risultato complessivo emozionante ed allo stesso tempo esteticamente gradevole.
STRUTTURA
Nordamericana nasce dallo stesso impianto costruttivo collaudato della serie AEROCLUB, già storico articolo della collezione Squadratlantica. E’ una giacca full zip metallo realizzata in 100% cotone tinto filo blu assemblata con manifattura sartoriale. L’insieme è composto da elementi di maglia calata realizzati con struttura e conformazione atte a favorire la migliore ergonomia. Due ampie tasche chiuse da zip in metallo sono poste lateralmente nella parte bassa del torace. La vestibilità è di tipo REGULAR stabilizzata mediante lavaggio e la gamma taglie va dalla XS alla 5XL. Nordamericana è realizzata in serie limitata a 1.000 pezzi distribuiti in tutto il mondo.
DESCRIZIONE DEGLI ELEMENTI / SIMBOLI DELLE SQUADRIGLIE CON GHEREGHEGHEZ!
Sulla manica destra ( si consideri la maglia indossata ) in basso sono applicati tramite cucitura quattro distinti gagliardetti, realizzati in maglia Jacquard, che rappresentano le otto squadriglie che componevano la formazione: quattro stellate e quattro cerchiate, distinte tra loro dai colori nero, rosso, bianco e verde. Una simbologia semplice ed immediata applicata sugli aeroplani in modo da consentire una rapida identificazione di ogni macchina sia in idroscalo che in volo. Un quinto gagliardetto in colore a contrasto amaranto riporta il Gheregheghez Ghez Ghez Ghez, ( se vuoi conoscere la storia del Gheregheghez clicca QUI )saluto alla voce di tutti i piloti italiani che sicuramente sarà più volte eccheggiato durante le tappe dell’impresa Atlantica.
ROMA – CHICAGO – NEW YORK – ROMA
Lo storico appassionato sa molto bene che la trasvolata prese effettivamente il via non da Roma ma dall’idroscalo di Orbetello “nido” degli Atlantici. La comunicazione dell’epoca scelse però, per evidenti motivi propagandistici e probabilmente anche di musicalità e bellezza grafica dell’insieme, di identificare le tappe in ROMA – CHICAGO – NEW YORK – ROMA. Abbiamo scelto quindi di segnare le tappe come da documenti ufficiali in modo da dare alla maglia la stessa cifra estetica della bellissima cartellonistica d’epoca. Non è un dettaglio da poco in quanto in questo modo si sceglie di comunicare correttamente anche il retro-pensiero che stava dietro all’impresa. E’ facile infatti comprendere cosa si intendeva comunicare posizionando per ben due volte la capitale d’Italia a serrare tra due tenaglie le due città simbolo della potenza statunitense. La missione ufficiale della trasvolata era quella di aprire nuove rotte commerciali ma si voleva anche avvertire l’America ed il mondo intero che dall’Italia una formazione serrata di aeroplani militari poteva raggiungere qualunque luogo del mondo.
SAVOIA S55X I-BALB
Se lo si guarda dall’alto un Savoia-Marchetti S55 è inconfondibile. Ecco perché abbiamo scelto di riprodurlo in pianta così da rendere evidente la sua struttura a catamarano, la grande ala e le travi di coda. Avevamo a disposizione un unico aeroplano a simboleggiare una formazione intera, non poteva che essere quindi I-BALB, il mitico S55X di Italo Balbo, Ministro della Regia Aeronautica ed ideatore dei voli di massa che infatti passarono alla storia come “formazioni Balbo”. Come un vero condottiero e rischiando la propria vita fu sempre lui a guidare i suoi Aviatori come capo formazione nelle crociere del Mediterraneo e nelle due trasvolate Atlantiche.
FORMAZIONE BALBO
Sul petto a destra, realizzate in tecnica jacquard, le scritte ATLANTICI e TRASVOLATA ATLANTICA DEL DECENNALE racchiudono tra loro la rappresentazione di una “Balbo flight” così come siamo abituati a vederla rappresentata: una formazione di aeroplani che dall’orizzonte si allunga sulla prospettiva dirigendosi verso chi osserva. E’ questa una immagine dal forte significato simbolico e propagandistico che arriva a coinvolgere l’osservatore nella composizione grafica indicandolo di fatto come destinazione ma anche come bersaglio della formazione di aeroplani. SQUADRA ATLANTICA 1933
Intarsio Jacquard, posizione a cuore. E’ consuetudine di Squadratlantica celebrare l’anno dell’impresa associandolo al logo di Squadratlantica; come una buona bottiglia di vino ogni capo celebrativo di Squadratlantica ha quindi la sua annata di riferimento, un dettaglio esteticamente importante e funzionale a contestualizzare l’impresa nello scenario storico e tecnologico nella quale venne realizzata.
TRICOLORE ATLANTICO
Sulla spalla sinistra viene applicato il tricolore italiano che scendendo incontra le ali stilizzate di una aquila intarsiata dalla A azzurra degli Atlantici. Una composizione solenne che simbolicamente rappresenta il significato stesso dell’impresa con il volo degli aviatori atlantici che porta il tricolore nel mondo. Ad accompagnare il volo l’idea che lo ispirò e che divenne motto degli Atlantici: “Nobis facta est immensi copia mundi – L’immensità del mondo è fatta per noi”. Una immagine grafica composta da più elementi in tricot e jacquard realizzati separatamente e successivamente applicati tramite cucitura.
NAVIGAZIONE AEREA D’ALTO MARE
La “Scuola di Navigazione Aerea D’alto Mare” venne costituita ad Orbetello il 15 Aprile 1931. Nel periodo Aprile / Dicembre presso il N.A.D.A.M. vennero conferite 143 abilitazioni di navigazione comprendenti anche quelle su Savoia-Marchetti S55. Abbiamo scelto di “chiudere il cerchio” dei simbologia di Nordamericana celebrando lo studio e la preparazione che sono alla base del successo di ogni impresa. Alla scritta per esteso identificante la scuola, realizzata in jacquard e che cinge la manica abbiamo associato una Rosa dei Venti ispirata a quelle presenti sulle mappe custodite a Palazzo Aeronautico a Roma. Significativamente chi indossa la maglia, piegando il braccio ed osservando la rosa dei venti noterà che indica ad Ovest la rotta da seguire per gli Atlantici.
UN CAPO DA INDOSSARE E CONSERVARE
Sono diverse le ragioni per le quali vale la pena di indossare una Nordamericana. La prima è che si tratta di un oggetto che ha un significato che va oltre il suo essere fisicamente un oggetto. E’ una bella lettera scritta su carta pregiata e che racconta la storia di una grande impresa compiuta da uomini ispirati e coraggiosi. Senza avere la pretesa di sostituirsi ad un testo ne stimola senz’altro la lettura e la conoscenza di una bella pagina di storia del nostro paese. E’ un invito aperto a chi la storia la vuole conoscere senza pregiudizi, è il prodotto di un pensiero ispirato ed è un esempio di quella volontà di realizzare nel nostro Paese delle eccellenze che tutelino e tramandino una cultura manifatturiera che è patrimonio nazionale. E’ un simbolo, un gesto di volontà che si pone al di fuori del pensiero comune, è la divisa per chi le cose le vede in un certo modo e soprattutto ricerca cose fatte in un certo modo. E’ realizzato con materiali e lavorazioni di qualità, è pratico, comodo, robusto, confortevole e durevole, ha un rapporto qualità/prezzo eccezionale, è Made in Italy, pensato, progettato e realizzato nel rispetto della dignità e salute delle persone in modo da essere unico ed originale e praticamente inimitabile. E’ realizzato in serie limitata perché non può essere per tutti ed è il risultato dell’incontro di pensieri, ideali, capacità tecniche, possibilità manifatturiere e condizioni che molto probabilmente non si ripeteranno mai più. E’ Squadratlantica.

1923 – 1933 TEN YEARS OF THE ITALIAN AIR FORCE “REGIA AERONAUTICA” 2011 – 2021 TEN YEARS OF SQUADRATLANTICA
To celebrate the tenth year of the Regia Aeronautica, “The Decennial Atlantic Crossing took off on July 1, 1933. Squadratlantica was officially born on July 1, 2011 and so this year Nordamericana celebrates the tenth year of Squadratlantica. Dates on the calendar aligned in a cabal way that binds together two endeavours so far in action and so close in purpose: to bring to the world, with the most powerful tools available, the culture, beauty, will, courage, quality and the pride of Made in Italy. Crossing for the first time an ocean was a technical act of extraordinary courage indeed, well beyond the limit of risk. “The Atlantici” were hundred men inspired and guided by a very strong personality, united among themselves and supported by the most powerful tools that Italy of that time could express; facing the world market alone with an unknown brand, orphans ignored by the nowadays Italy was perhaps an act of courage but well beyond the limit of unconsciousness. But the presumption and the will to succeed create the base of business and today, marked by experience but therefore even more confident and determined, we are here to celebrate both and together our 1st July of ten years ago and “their” 1st july of last century.
SYMBOLS AND WORDS TO READ
Each element of Nordamericana tells a detail of the 1933 Atlantic crossing. We have selected to represent the most iconic and unmistakable elements of the endeavour to satisfy the enthusiast but also to fix names and shapes in the memory of those who see for the first time. Each element is made in such a way as to be compatible as much as possible with the aesthetics and skill of the textile manufacturing of the 30s and at the same time to ensure a long operational life to a product that must be practical in use and maintenance. We decided to show in detail our work on this jacket in order to clearly communicate the amount of study, the thought and the passion that are the basis of the design so as to allow the wearer to be able to correctly understand and if needed to explain all symbols and words rapresented on it. To those who express an idea on the abundance of graphics represented, we reply that it is in the very nature of the jacket to be a visual exclamation for the pride of the accomplished mission; In fact, it would make no sense to quietly celebrate an endeavour that had such a wide worldwide impact. This is therefore a sort of fan’s jacket, to be worn with pride and respect.
CONSTRUCTION
Nordamericana was born on the same tested layout of the AEROCLUB series , an historic item of the Squadratlantica collection. It is a full metal zip jacket made of 100% blue yarn-dyed cotton assembled with tailoring skill. It is composed by elements of knit made in structure and conformation designed to enjoy the best ergonomic. Two large pockets, closed by metal zips are placed laterally in the lower part of the chest. The fit is REGULAR stabilized by washing and the size range goes from XS to 5XL. Nordamericana is made in a limited series of 1,000 pieces distributed worldwide.
ELEMENTS DESCRIPTION / SQUADRONS SIGNALS WITH GHEREGHEGHEZ!
On the right sleeve (consider the shirt once worn) at the bottom are sewn four distinct pennants, made of Jacquard knit, which represent the eight squadrons that made up the formation: four starry and four circled, distinguished from each other by the colors black, red, white and green. A simple and immediate symbology applied on airplanes in order to allow rapid identification of each machine both in the seaplane base and in flight. A fifth pennant, made in contrasting amaranto tone, reports the “Ghereghez Ghez Ghez Ghez”, ( if you want to know the genesis of Ghereghez click HERE ) the greetings to the voice of all the Italian pilots who will surely be launched several times during the Atlantic crossing steps.
ROMA – CHICAGO – NEW YORK – ROMA
The historian knows very well that the flight actually took off not from Rome but from the seaplane base of Orbetello, the “nest” of the Atlantici aviators. The advertising of that time, however, chose, for obvious propaganda reasons and probably also of musicality and graphic reason of the whole, to identify the flight steps in ROMA – CHICAGO – NEW YORK – ROMA. We therefore chose to mark the steps as per official documents in order to give the jacket the same aesthetic figure as the beautiful vintage poster design. It is not a small detail to note that in this way we choose to correctly communicate even the rear-thinking behind the mission. It is easy to understand the suggestion researched by positioning twice the capital of Italy in order to clamp between two pincers the two main cities of US power.
SAVOIA S55X I-BALB
If you look at it from above, the shape of a Savoia-Marchetti S55 seaplane is unmistakable. This is why we have chosen to reproduce it in plan so as to highlight its catamaran structure, huge wing and double tail. There was place for only a single seaplane to symbolize the whole formation, so it could be only be I-BALB, the legendary S55X droven by Italo Balbo, Minister of the Italian Royal Air Force “Regia Aeronautica”, creator of the big squadrons that are known in history as “Balbo”. As a true leader and risking his own life, he was always the one to lead his Aviators as Squadron Commander on Mediterranean cruises and in the two Atlantic crossings.
BALBO
On the chest right side, made in jacquard technique, the inscriptions ATLANTICI and TRASVOLATA ATLANTICA DEL DECENNALE enclose a “Balbo” as we are used to seeing it represented: a big group of airplanes that stretches from the horizon towards the observer. This is an image with a strong symbolic and propagandistic meaning that involves the observer in the graphic composition indicating him as a destination but also as a target for the airplanes. Power of propaganda!
SQUADRATLANTICA 1933
Jacquard inlay, heart position. Squadratlantica is used to celebrate the year of the endeavour by associating it with the Squadratlantica logo; like a good bottle of wine each celebratory garment of Squadratlantica therefore has its heritage reference, an aesthetically important and functional detail to contextualize the endeavour in the historical and technological scenario in which it was accomplished.
ATLANTICI’ TRICOLOR FLAG
Descending on the left shoulder an Italian tricolor meets the stylized wings of an eagle inlaid with the azure A of the Atlantici Pilots. A solemn composition that symbolically represents the very meaning of the endeavour, with the flight of the Atlantic aviators that brings the tricolor flag all over to the world. Right below the eagle is recorded the idea that inspired the flight and became the motto of the Atlantici: “Nobis facta est immensi copia mundi – The immensity of the world is made for us”.A graphic image composed of several tricot and jacquard elements made separately and subsequently applied by stitching.
NAVIGAZIONE AEREA D’ALTO MARE ( HIGH SEAS AIR NAVIGATION )
The “High Seas Air Navigation School” was established in Orbetello on April 15, 1931. In the period April / December 143 navigation qualifications were awarded at NADAM, including those on Savoia-Marchetti S55. We have chosen to “close the circle” of the symbols of Nordamericana by celebrating the study and preparation that are the basis of the success of any endeavour. Near the school name, written in jacquard style and surrounding around the sleeve, we have apllied a Rose of the Winds inspired by those present on the maps kept at Palazzo Aeronautico in Rome (headquarter of Regia Aeronautica). The wearer of the jacket, by bending his arm and observing the wind rose, will notice that it points to the West (Ovest in italian) the Atlantici’ mission route.
A GARMENT TO WEAR AND KEEP
There are several reasons to wear a Nordamericana. The first is that it is an object that has a meaning beyond its being only an object. It is a beautiful letter written on fine paper and which tells the story of a great feat accomplished by inspired and courageous men. Without pretending to replace a book, it certainly stimulates the reading and knowledge of a beautiful page in the history of flight. It is an open invitation to those who want to know history without prejudice, it is the product of an inspired thought and is an example of that desire to create excellence that protects and passes on a manufacturing culture that is an heritage value. It is a symbol, a gesture of will that stands outside common thinking, it is the uniform for those who see things in a special way and look for things done in a special way. It is made with quality materials and workmanship, it is practical, convenient, sturdy, comfortable and durable, it has an exceptional quality / price ratio, it is Made in Italy, conceived, designed and manufactured in respect of the dignity and health of people in order to be unique and original and practically inimitable. It is made in a limited series because it cannot be for everyone and is the result of the meeting of thoughts, ideals, technical skills, manufacturing possibilities and conditions that will most likely never be repeated again.
